Day 22:  30 Days of Prayer for Hope

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. (Psalms 147:3)

Guilherme rarely appeared in Hope photos. He was just too cool. Try as we might, we could never get him to stop flashing a peace sign or wearing his hat to the side; that was just his personality. He was a great kid, full of smiles, but he was definitely his own man.

And he ran away. He had done it before, and he always came back. This time though, on his first night away, he was hit by a drunk driver in a nearby slum.

When the hospital released him to us, the doctor’s diagnosis was a “permanent vegetative state.” Then one day, we saw him smile. A few weeks later, we got a thumbs up. Months went by, and then, at a worship service at the graduate church, Guilherme walked in with a huge smile on his face. He’s been finding Peace…

Father, we thank you that you heal those broken beyond healing, in spirit as well as in body. Please continue to heal Guilherme and draw him closer to you, just as you heal and draw each of us ever nearer.
