Day 1: 30 Days of Prayer for Hope

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber. (Psalm 121:1-3)

Brazil is a country of great wealth and extreme poverty. In most of the country’s large cities, one can look out from a precarious shack in the middle of a favela and practically see into the window of a luxury high-rise condominium next door. Children living in the desperate conditions of the favelas are abandoned, abused, and exploited as their parents struggle to survive. Families live in seemingly endless cycles of poverty and hopelessness.

For over 23 years, Hope Unlimited has served some of the most desperate children in Brazil, but our City of Youth, Hope Mountain, and Nave Mae preschool only touch a portion of the need. Prayer is the first step to seeking hope for Brazil and its many orphaned and trafficked children. Pray for transformation in the country—for economic progress, strong communities, and the Gospel to heal lives.

Just and loving Father, bless the children of the favelas and help them to know your love. Give Hope Unlimited wisdom to positively affect a culture for you so cycles of poverty and loss will be broken.
