Numbers get to me, especially when we’re talking about orphans, because I connect those numbers with faces of real kids, with real needs, and often, with real pain. Last Saturday, I saw some numbers that were profoundly troubling: Here in my home state of Tennessee, there are 254 children in foster care who are legally available for adoption. And there are 10,000 churches in the state.

How can this be? Why aren’t every one of those kids scooped up into loving Christian arms today?

When the world looks at our attitudes about orphans, does it see the absolute proof of God – or do they just see a shrug?

Then the king will reply . . . “Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not visit me.”
